I don't. I'm different. The vast majority keep their silver in a box tucked away, for a holiday or some other event. Then, they shine it up with Wrights silver cream or a thiourea solution, etc. with the hope of impressing others. In my case, I have no intent to impress, since there are so many others trained in that regard and I wish not to enter the competition. A little soap and water goes a long way. I could shine it up anytime I suppose. Maybe I'm just lazy. It's just another tool. But, I like my Snap-on wrenches the best. I found alot of them on the road while I was hitchhiking back up in Ohio I keep them cleaner than my silverware.
I think silverplate is probably as effective, but I really don't like fake anything. Silverplate, bleach blondes, Fender Stratocasters made in China, etc. One needs not buy a whole set if they are only going to use it for themselves, one or two place settings from an antique store nearby or ebay would probably suffice. I hear that the dishwasher is not a good way to go, but I've never tried the dishwasher.
