Excellent point. Dr Sinatra, the Cardiologist of internet fame constantly says he can tell a patients cardiac health by first observing their oral health. Cardiologists have known this for a long time, but it looks like this study took pains to try to prove this emperical relationship.
The traditional line of dentists and periodontists is that nothing you can do grows gums. Once they're receded you're done - so floss em, clean em, water pic em while you gottem. My first hint that this wasn't entirely true is when I found that CQ10 could help with gum growth (as mine were seriously receded from years of chewing tobacco use). Interesting that CQ10 is also the most important supplement for cardiovascular help. Hmmm. The COQ10 DID help regrow my gums as did Goji Berries I found later.
However none of them work as quickly, cheaply or impressively as oil pulling. As our population is aging, we're drifting into the territory of periodontal disease, root canals and tooth loss (not to mention heart disease) that are taken to be inevitable by the dental profession. How amazing that there's such a simple way out.
