When my cat Fluffy was dying, about 2 or 3 weeks before, he went and said goodbye to the whole fam by jumping on their lap and rubbing their faces and chins.  he didn't want to stop, was overly friendly.  He did it for a few days or so.  He never did that before.  Right after that, he withdrew and would have his back to us and just lay there not looking well.   As soon as he died, I knew what he was doing.  He knew he was sick and he was saying goodbye to everyone.  He was 12.  I grew up with him.  He always sat like this:
