MH is actually saying that what works in Lugol's is the potassium not the iodine, so it's obvious he doesn't believe in it for the same reason most of us do. As for the amalgams, I believe the most mercury is released when first put in and at the moment of removal so if someone has had them for very many years and they're already sick it may do more harm than good because their bodies may not be able to handle the load even when trying to chelate. I used to think chelation was rather easy, but I've heard accounts of people who ended up feeling worse after trying to do it. It's not all up to the intestines to get the stuff out, circulation must be good so toxins can be moved to the lymph, and the liver and kidneys must be in good shape and we must be able to sweat so we can flush them out or else they'll just keep swimming back and forth (something that is probably going on with me right now...).
I'm not saying that everything MH says is bunk but I do run in the opposite direction of anyone who says this or that is the cause of "all" disease. Like Dr. Hulda Clark, he only has a part of the puzzle, as does everyone else. But the amazing thing is that these people actually believe they are the ones who have THE ANSWER, which is usually so limiting, extreme, and impractical for people who live in the "real world" to be able to do. But they are too blind to see this, instead, when people fail all they have to say is "It's your fault, you didn't do it right". I mean, seriously, for instance: how many city dwellers can go outside naked to soak up the sun??? They'll get locked up in a NY minute! Unless they live in a house with a tall fence, which leaves out thousands who live in apartments... And although to be honest I laugh at the absurd idea of frutarianism (sorry to those who practice it), supposing it could be taken seriously, how practical is it for many to try to live just off fruit, particularly only the ones fallen to the ground that happen to not be crawling with... worms? LOL, I can't help it! Anyway, I'm hypoglycemic so it's totally out of the question for me!
Today I just read a post in MH's forum about a man who died at 112 years of age and throughout his life ate a lot of sausages and waffles. I just shook my head reading who some were trying to find something in the article that would indicate the man in part practiced what they preach, even speculating on things that were not mentioned, ridiculous stuff. The only thing said that was sensible was that during most of his lifetime that man didn't have to put up with as many toxins as we do today. I don't even agree with what the article said about his genetics because both my maternal grandparents lived past 90 and both enjoyed pretty good health most of their lives, one dying of heart failure and the other of no clear reason, however, 4 of their 6 children have had cancer and 2 have died already not long after 60.
The only person who ever gave an explanation that made sense to me as a possible cause for all disease was Adelle Davis. She said it all begins with STRESS and she went on to explain how the stress response works, that seemed clear as day to me. We have to keep in mind that stress can be both mental or physical. Therefore, having parasites, having excess heavy metals, the wrong pH, not sleeping well or even hating one's life qualify as stress, and any ongoing stress especially without adequate support creates "fertile ground" for disease to develop in our bodies, period.
