Hi fledging...Your post is so old, you'll probably not even find this reply...but
just in case, I'll tell you what little "I" know. :-)
I had a total hysterectomy in June of 1996...in the fall of 1997 I came down with
what my gynecologist said was Lichen Sclerosis. I thought I had a bad yeast infection...because that's the way it started out...symptoms just like a bad yeast
infection.
I was told that Lichen Sclerosis is a result of a hormonal imbalance after a hysterectomy. But that it was just impossible to turn around after having the surgery. I found all kinds of 'excuses' for Lichen Sclerosis in my search...but no answers.
I was told there was nothing that could be done...and I would have to learn to live
with it. But I don't believe in hopeless...that word isn't in my vocabulary!
By early spring it had worsened to the point I was just about wild with pain. We had tried several doctors and they all said the same thing. So I just called
Vandebilt Hospital (we live about 3 hours from there) and I asked if they had a
gynecological wing...they said yes...and gave me that phone number. I called that
phone number and asked if they had a doctor that had successfully treated Lichen
Sclerosis....she said yes that all of their doctors had successfully treated
Lichen Sclerosis :-/ ...my blood almost started boiling...because I had cried with pain for 3 or 4 months. I asked to have an appointment with the doctor that
had treated the MOST cases successfully (I'm no dummy!) :-) and told the receptionist that I needed it just as soon as earthly possible....she gave me an
appointment for 2 weeks away.
Dr Entman at Vanderbilt told me that I had one of the worst cases he had ever seen...but that he could turn it around...and turn it around he did. He wrote me
a prescription for 2 medications that I came right back home and filled at our local pharmacy for $10. Now why in the name of PETE couldn't these other doctors
have done that same thing. I was totally pain free within about 2 weeks. I do
have to use this medication for the rest of my life....but that's a small price to
pay.
And trying to treat it naturally. Believe me...I tried everything...and nothing
worked for me. We could have bought someone a nice used car with the money I spent on natural remedies...because I had been told there was no conventional treatment...so I had no choice but try to find a way to heal it naturally. But I just couldn't find anything that helped.
I absolutely feel for anyone suffering from this and not finding a doctor that can
treat it. It absolutely CAN be treated successfully and quickly and I hope NO ONE
will let a doctor tell them otherwise. kathryn
