I have experienced similar pain to that in your shoulder, in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen for nearly 2 years. Dull pain for me. Mostly a 2 or 3 and not much beyond a level 5 on a scale to ten, but persistent for hours at a time, or at days. The pain usually comes on a while after fatty meals, and is certainly aggrivated for days after high stress levels (from things like moving across the country and remodeling a house by myself). Citrus, especially in drinks, seems to cause a very immediate response of pain in the same location.

I had an ultrasound showing no stones over a year ago. I did a Liver Flush with apple juice for a week, and olive oil and lemon juice to flush. It seemed to work and greatly reduced the frequency and strength of the pain for a few weeks. I have also used Beet Root Extract with good success in reducing the discomfort, especially when I pay attention to my stress level and what I am eating, and supplement with Beet Root accordingly.

As I am in the final stretch of our home renovation, I have gone back to the doctor to get another opinion and see if they think this is really Gallbladder related. In contrast to my previous doctor who wanted to schedule a surgery a week after the first appointment (obviously I declined), my current doctor and the GI specialist do not think it is a gallbladder issue. I was a bit put off at the notion of it being gas, as it is so specific in location and timing, and since it has persisted for nearly two years in varying degrees. I have another Ultrasound tomorrow morning. I half would like them to find stones just to know there is something real I can battle.

The quality of life is the issue for me. The house remodel is huge, and there will naturally be stress, but the level of near anxiety is frightening at times. I have never experienced such a sense of lacking confidence. My stomach churns quite often and it is tough to know if it is stress, or further health issues from the pain the stress is causing in my side. I can certainly relate to emotions like anger feeling they have more hold on you than you are used to.

I will report back with any new information I get from the doctor that might give direction, but just now, I am feeling the information here is more realistic in trying to diagnose and cope with these Gallbladder related issues than the doctor is.
