Quite extraordinary message and it rings true for me. Maybe the first thing I have to do is 90 meetings in 90 days. I've quit drinking for at least that long and kept up with my Alanon work but only attended a few AA meetings.
I've read the big book and know the 12 steps (both AA and Alanon) and yet it is so much harder to accept being an alcoholic than it was to see that my family was comprised of them. Alanon saved my life. It gave me a serenity that therapy, at $150/hr. never could. The combination of going to lots of meetings, leading them, working with a sponsor and becoming a sponsor, greeter, secretary, etc. was transforming. But I remember the first 6 months and I know that with AA, it will be different, very different, and I'm nervous.
Funny thing was that Alanon helped me see the very real truth about my drinking, so much so that I haven't made it to a meeting in over a year! Felt like a hypocrite. My sponsor moved away and that was that. How ironic. The absurdity of it all has become too much. I am,however, grateful that God has prodded me gently into this forum.
