I would have never discovered what I did had it not been for trying a new supplement..
I was looking for a liquid calcium supplement for my child and happen to purchase Bluebonnet liquid Ca, Mg Citrate with vitamin D. I decided to try some of it myself, the next day my skin was awsome, no inflammation and calm and those pustules were better. Amazing! I took more and more everyday until my skin started to get dry again and I wondered why-well I was taking too much and the balance was not right so I started experiementing with different amounts of Mg and Ca along with vit. D. I soon figured out how much of each works for me. I know exactly what symptoms I personally will get if I go overboard with either Mg or Ca.
I should also mention that some other forms of Mg dont work for me while the citrate form does. Same with Calcium, the citrate form really makes the difference for me. I think people may try a supplement and assume it doesnt work but it could be the form they are taking is not right for them.
So what I take now is three divided teaspoons of the bluebonnet liquid Ca, Mg, D (you must divide the doses throughout the day for max absorption) and also divided doses of Mg citrate (I use the "Calm powder") and Ca citrate (Natural Factors), I also take one Vit. D tablet (1000mg Natural Factors) divided into four doses/day. Im still experiementing with the dosages because what I eat effects my skin too.
I was so changed by this combo that I felt I really needed to get a bone scan to see if I had lost any bone mass. I assume based on my symptoms that I have been deficient in these minerals for a long time, even though my blood tests have been normal for Ca and Mg (these are blood levels only). I also had my vit. D levels checked because you dont want to supplement too much vit D as it can build up.
Cod liver oil is high in vitamin D. I tried it but did not see any big difference in my health, but I also wasnt taking Calcium and Mg along with it. And vitamin A has always made my dry skin even drier. You may want to try it though.
