A true Biologic Dentist puts nothing in your mouth that harms the body. They do not use mercury or nickel. Of course all dental material are toxic to some degree, but they use the least toxic. They also don't believe in root canals or implants and they are certified to do cavitations. They follow a stringent protocol for removal of mercury, generally the Huggins' Protocol or very similar. Any varience in those means they are not a true Biologic Dentist. Very few exist in the world. Although they may call themselves Biologic, many of them do root canals and/or do not do cavitations (or they do them, but are not certified). Some follow a very lax protocol for mercury removal, which can be harmful to the patient.

Holistic and Alternative are just other titles used to mean the Dentist is not a mainstream Dentist. Generally, it means they acknowledge the body as a whole and interconnected, that teeth can affect the entire body. They most likely do not use mercury, but some of them, do not remove it. Some will use nickel and some will see it for the cancer causing substance it is. Some will be very aware of the toxic properties of all the materials they are placing in the mouth and some will not. Some of these Dentists will do root canals and some will not (some will believe in them, just send you somewhere else to get one). A very few of the Holistic or Alternative Dentists will do cavitations, even less will be certified to do them.

Many Dentists are using the terms Biologic, Holistic, and Alternative interchangeably, so it gets confusing. A good rule of thumb is to find out if they do mercury removal and compare their removal protocol to Hal Huggins'. Find out their beliefs on root canals and ask to see a N.I.C.O. certificate if they do cavitations.
