I have read that when we produce sufficient stomach acid and digestive (proteolytic) enzymes any parasites/eggs ingested will be destroyed and thus prevented from "nesting".  After 35 most of us tend to produce less hydrochloric acid so it helps to add it in supplement form (betaine Hcl) at each meal.  Incidentally, iodine supposedly helps increase hydrochloric acid in those who are deficient besides helping to kill pathogens.  Also, besides improving our diet by adding more alkalizing foods, paying more attention to our hygienic practices (like washing our hands frequently, including cleaning under the nails) and keeping any house pets properly dewormed greatly improves our chances of not getting reinfested.  I personally do not agree with doing routine parasite cleanses more than twice a year unless there is real reason to suspect one has been reinfested because anti-parasite herbs such as wormwood can have negative side effects too (and should probably be considered as drugs).
