Cold sores are caused by herpes, which is a virus that can cause flu-like symptoms when you get outbreaks (sores). If they are cold sores, you probably have type 1 hsv (herpes simplex virus) which is usually associated with oral herpes but can also cause genital herpes if spread to the genitals.

Antivirals can help with hsv outbreaks but there is no cure for herpes. Drugs like Valtrex can help but if you want natural stuff you can try natural antivirals too.
