Hey 67751, I agree with you, that AA espouses the "learned helplessness" philosophy. For the brief time that I did try AA, I thought there was nothing at all empowering about it.
And do you notice how aggressive they are with their brainwashing techniques and rhetoric? Any slight bit of criticism towards the AA mantra will only elicit a strong, negative response from them. It's half funny, and half sad. I can only guess that the obsessiveness of the active alcoholic and the obsessiveness of AA are really two sides of the same, ugly coin. The common denominator is the obsessiveness.
But really, it's difficult to have a rational discussion with someone who is having problems with their glucose metabolism, whether dry drunk or wet drunk.
