I have to disagree. I was the worse type of drunk ,one drink meant weeks of uncontrolled chaos. I have cured myself completely with diet and a full spectrum of minerals and vitamins. It did not take a spiritual epiphany ,just time and a positive mental attitude. I can take alcohol or leave it one drink or four I can stop at the moment I choose.
The idea that is most damaging to the alcoholic is the typical AA philosophy ,that you are powerless to make these choices. Nothing is more destructive then the concept that one has no control over there lives.
