You seem to have done most everything reasonable to make this relationship work.
You also seem to have a good head on your shoulders (except you got caught in this guys life). Be very careful about listening to typhonblue. Don't internalize his logic.
I know that poster is saying they are trying to get at both sides of the story and I don't doubt them, but I don't think it sounds like you are at fault here.
You do get to have your happiness and financial and emotional safety that you want and do not seem to be putting in jeopardy. He does sound like your husband has problems and they don't sound like your fault.
You made a very wise decision to say you cannot fix this man.he has to fix himself.
