"I am totally disgusted at the indifference we humans can stoop to. Indifference is worse than hate, and we will all be held responsible before our Maker for wether or not we are willing enough to go beyond our indifference in situations presented right before us."

.... truer words never spoken, perhaps criminal even, wouldnt you agree APXR?

The health system in the US is so broken on many different levels. In this particular case, there exists 2 problems. #1 is the triage process whereby the triage nurse decides the immediacy of the ER services required. The little girl with the a viral rhinitis (common cold), the elderly lady with dementia who has difficulty remembering where she is or ambulating, or the febrile lady on the gournie vomiting blood profusely accompanied with profuse bloody diarrhea and a pre-existing heart condition that is going into imenent hypovolemic shock and acute heart failure. This is the beginning of the problem #2 the competency of the hospital... how many docs are on staff, not to mention the competincy of these docs which were questionable at best. First of all does the patient have insurance and even if she does is it acceppted? Now to find a doc oncall thats actually on her insurance plan that could adequately address her issues. Add into the scenario, too many patients, understaffing and undertraining issues. The miracle that occurrs all over the US in thousands of hospitals throughout the US is that in fact millions of patients do manage through this gauntlat for better or worse. Lest we forget however, that in the US, this addresses less than half the problem and not the millions of UNINSURED that we have in this country. Hey we proudly hold the 37th place in international standard of medicine (below slovenia and above cuba)
