I frequently advise not doing this. The ground electrode serves as a saftey zone for parasites. Therefore, not all are killed. Keep the ground electrode only in the hand and away from the rest of the body. You should note a difference.

Also, be certain to use paper towels around the copper electrodes and dispose of them at the end of each session.

Yes, I have had throat and other spasms with Lugol's when not zapping.

Yes, avoid placing the positive electrode near the eyes. I have heard of some individuals who had some temporary visual problems that might become permanent. I myself have seen visual patterns with my eyes closed when the electrodes were close.
