You know, you could ask everybody and anybody in the whole world just about any question (opinion) and they will give you:

1) a reply (not an answer/solution) based on commentary.
2) popular opinion based on what is politically correct.
3) patronize and flatter you in order to be your hero and recieve glory for it.
4) 'palm you off' on a 'professional' because they really have nothing good to say and really don't care.

but the only real answer to any personal conflict comes from within (introspection).

So, you endured 15 years of INVOLUNTARY (meaning you weren't celibate because you felt COMPELLED to be, but because, to you, sex is not the 'be all and end all' of Jacob's life) celibacy. You are not just a survivor now, but every day of those 15 years you were a survivor. You weren't a VICTIM that just gets overwhelmed and pulls the plug on himself, you were a survivor and held out for 15 years. I'm not saying that you should remain celibate at all and that your satisfaction is not a priority, what I'm pointing out is that you are profound and sex will never satisfy you completely, your heart runs deeper than mere sex (I AM NOT discouraging you from sex, I wouldn't do that to anyone except a pervert). How many of the people on this planet do you think could do what you did and maintain their sanity? (you wanted confidence and self-esteem, here it is). There is much more inside of you than you think. You have an inner strength that few can recognize, and wisdom that, if you look inside, you will recognize. Find a smart woman who can appreciate and RESPECT both. A heart that cannot break is a heart of stone, but you survived a broken heart for 15 years, and not only did you live to tell about, but lived to BE it.

Congratulations, you now have the confidence and self-esteem you want (but this is not you reward for the 15 yrs., who you are today is).
