Mama, one of the rules that Spirit made for us was to not post in Debate Forums under the same user name that everyone recognizes as a moderator. This way, if a moderator feels inclined to be strongly opinionated or combative in any particular area, at least that person's individual opinion will not be associated with Curezone.
Other than that, I see nothing wrong with people knowing who the moderators are. I personally think that people do have a right to know which moderator is doing what in a particular forum. I know for sure I would want to know who is doing something to my posts and why. I also think that before a moderator makes a decision to ban a poster for violations, the moderator should take a coupe of minutes to emai the person involved and inform them of precisely what the problem is. I believe comunication is very important, and courtesy should be extended even in the cases where a poster has not been particularly courteous, just as a matter of rule.
All moderators are different, with different backgrounds, personalities, etc. And although I honestly believe that ALL moderators are trying to hold up the TOS as faithfullly as possible, perhaps it is the way we interpret and enforce those rules what has caused much strife and confusion in the past. I certainly hope these issues can be resolved and that we do not lose those things that have worked well all along.
I personally kept my identity as moderator quiet for a long time, then I decided there was no reason to continue doing so and went public, although maintaining an anon# or identity if I ever went into the Debate Forums (not too often)
Thanks for bringing up this question, it allows for clarity and discussion.
