Dear Dr. Hardy,

It's a pleasure to be able to communicate with you here.

My sister, who is 76 years of age, and very active, has a cholesterol problem (runs in the family). I control mine with natural means -- fish oil, GLA, lecithin, fish, almonds, fiber, etc. She is taking MEVACOR. I don't know how safe this is, although I discovered that it is one of the milder statins.

Can you tell me if Mevacor is safe for her to take? If not, what would your advice be to her for lowering cholesterol. As I said, our family has a high cholesterol level genetically.
