My hubby bought this carafe for water at his work place....I'm anal about carry my water everywhere but he takes rapid transit to work and won't carry glass jugs with him.

It's called aquaspace and looks like a Brita filter but uses bone char for the medium. Bone char is used in Africa for cheap filtering where natural fluoride is huge problem. The disadvantage is that water must sit in it for awhile to pull out Fluoride...i.e a shower filter running hot water through would not work.

I think he paid around $50 for carafe.
Here's his emails with the company ...scroll to the bottom and work your way up so it makes sense.
(ignore the "i'm allergic to aluminium" statement...I've never heard of this and guess Curt made it up to get an answer......)

 Hi Curt,



The suggested break in is to soak the filter for 15 min to hydrate the

media then flush the until  (backwash) by holding the bottom up to the

faucet to flush out the fines.



I do suggest you order a special order Carafe that we make using 100%

bone char. Under low pH water conditions activated alumina could produce

an aluminum hydroxide which is a form of aluminum. For all practical

considerations you will get about the same fluoride reduction from the

"all bone char" unit as our standard CA-100F.
