As a child I received the small pox and the polio sugar cubes. It was well before so many of the other vaccinations came out. I was the healthiest kid on the block, never catching a cold or the flu. I missed a total of two days of school from kindergarten through high school because I caught the 3-day-measles from one of my friends.

Whenever someone asks me if I am getting a flu shot I answer, "Why would I introduce that stuff to my body? I have never had the flu and I don't want it now." They always look at me like I'm crazy.

I decided to do some volunteer work at a local hospice. I'll do office work because I don't have the desire to work with dying people. I was given the option of receiving a vaccination for Hepatitis B which I declined. I don't want that in my body either. I worked for nine years at a state hospital, on the side that was for developmentally disabled (mentally retarded) clients. I worked on the unit that housed the worst behaviors, biting, defecating, incontinence, and violent behaviors. Many of the biters had Hepatitis in one form or the other. I never worried about catching it and never did.

Now I'm trying to convince my kids to decline the vaccinations for the grandkids but it is almost impossible. Everywhere you take the kids (day care, pre-school or school) they want to see the shot record. It makes it seem mandatory for the kids to have the vaccinations.
