Thanks for telling me my story is inspiring ...actually I think there's lots of people out there (and on these boards) with different but similar stories. But it makes me feel good to hear it!!
I don't know if I can give you satisfactory answer but here's some thoughts....
do you feel like the iodine has enabled you to go off the bio identical hormones?
No I'm still on bio-identicals BUT BUT I'm also 53. Many women have had to increase slightly their estrogen getting on iodine (from the iodine conference). If you're only 38 ...you might be able to pop up your estrogen levels with vit D. Don't know for sure but there is a woman on the rhythmicliving site who has done this by getting her vit D levels up and she's gotten off estrogen. She's in her mid-40s and works with a doctor who believes in really pulling up the D levels.
If not what do you recommend reading to become knowledgeable about them?
Elizabeth Vliet's books are very good and she's like estrogen...she's probably a good place to start. It's My Ovaries Stupid is easy and makes sense. I would NOT get any of Lee's book on progesterone (find that stuff on the net if you're interested in progesterone and so called estrogen dominance), Suzzane Somer's books or TS Wiley's book Sex Lies and Menopause (that's a horrible prescription for disaster)
I get hot flashes after eating meat but am not menopausal as far as I know-Im 38. You mentioned hot flashes while eating the Weston Price way and I wonder if these were from the meat and if you found a solution?
Don't know any reasons for why that would be unless it's possible you're reacting to meat that's not totally fresh. I thought this was ridiculous when I first heard it but a number of people I know from weston price practice what's called failsafe eating. You might check it out...also could explain your reaction to greens.

I followed this diet for awhile last year before finally committing myself to upping my iodine and sticking to it. Now the digestive problems I had have cleared so I don't read that site anymore. There's some fascinating stuff being discussed on it though.
Also curious but did you try liver flushing to correct hormonal imbalances?
I've done some liver flushes but haven't seen any difference in hormone...remember I'm 53 and my levels are dropping. I need to keep my short term memory going and sleep at night. Both were fading and on hormones I'm not looking for everything the minute I set it down and I sleep at night. My sleep had gotten so bad for awhile I stayed home from work because the expressway drive would have been dangerous. I needed to sleep! At that point I realized I wasn't functioning well enough to keep up teaching despite all the good foods I ate. Something had to give so I started hormones.
Now I'm keeping up a forty hour + job, driving 1-2 hours in commutes and getting in night school classes. I'm tired but doing it.
You mentioned briefly the organic lettuce messing up the mineral balance, does this mean that organic produce coming from california is all high in nitrogen and phos? I have an allergy to green veggies-when I eat them my skin gets glassy thin, tight, fragile and starts to peel and crack. My lips crack and bleed and I get horrible insomnia -do you think these are symptoms of too much phosphorus and nitrogen? What minerals are recommended to conteract the mineral imbalance caused by phosphorus and nitrogen.
I don't know about counteracting the imbalances.....I know I hate the taste of that lettuce and won't mess with it. Now we get local lettuce from a farmer using seasalt on his beds. It's delicous...once you taste highly mineralized vegetables it's really hard to go back.
I've heard of people having allergies to green veggies....you might also ask on the failsafe group above. They won't think you're crazy for these reactions.
If I could only attend one of the two conferences mentioned which would you consider to be better.
Weston Price for sure...Acres is still about farming mostly but it's cheaper. HOWEVER...all lunches and dinners are included in the weston price cost and they are truly amazing. You won't believe how good they are!
Bye
Lynn
