I just want to get on the record a few things before making a few comments. 1) I'm already on the record (often and repeatedly) of admitting that there is a whole bunch of stuff that I don't know - would like to know but just don't know; 2) this post by Jeff via Jarvis is a great example of a whole bunch of stuff I do not know (or at least did not previously know) - the broad, often contentious topic of Ph within the body be it gut/stomach or blood; 2b) now that I've read the Jarvis excerpt, I at least know that I read it but this does not mean that I now know the same as Jarvis claims to have known..... I'm still taking in for cosideration, how's that?; 3) while my comments may appear as though intended to engage debate, I am not intending to debate Jeff's post (or Jarvis' knowledge and or beleifs) with my comments that follow; 4) to repeat, I'm not wanting to debate, I'm wanting to know. As it turns out in this case (the great big Ph topic), I do not know. If nothing else, perhaps this is fair twist of fate that at the same time I do not know what is what in this instance, I also do not want to debate here - this seems fair to me; 5) I think Jeff's post of Jarvis' informatin includes information that is certainly worthy of further discussion, be it debate or other kinds of discussion, just not worthy of debate here in this support forum based upon current TOS for such.
Now that that is out of the way, I agree, that post from Jeff was some interesting reading for me. Among the reasons I found it of such interest is because many of the thoughts put forward are nearly in direct conflict with the philosophy of multiple other topics/forums that I have been following for many months. Just a for instance, the topic/notion of distilled water being good (at least in comparison to run of the mill muni tap water, as well as typical well water) would seem to be in direct conflict/opposition with the mention (in Jeff's post) of what happens when water is boiled; it apparently is rendered un-naturally alkaline with the implication being that alkaline water is not good for health. From this I infer that an environment [like one's stomach/blood/body] into which distilled water may be placed does not promote good health. On the other hand, perhaps water that is distilled can easily be improved (made more healthy, again?) in this context merely by adding back to it some necessary trace elements that themselves will give back to the water some acidity...? Will adding sea salt to distilled water increase the water's acidity, or make it more alkaline?
Just another for instance, that Jarvis excerpt, overall, seems to be in fairly stark contradiction with a lot of the philosophy of Barefoot MH in conjunction with MH's belief in the Hay method to correcting one's health through the use of orange-juice fasting. In the long term view of what it is that constitutes good human health, it seems that one of the two (alkaline stomach is good V alkaline stomach is not good) is likely to be more correct than the other.... but again, this is not based on what I know, merely on what I think I suspecte :) Likewise, if Jarvis believed that eating meat also is a reason for the stomach to go alkaline, the implication I took from this is that eating such meat is not good for promoting health because it promotes alkaline stomach, which in turn is in stark contrast to the philosphy of others (MH among them) who believe that eating meat causes the stomach to go acid and is also unhealthy. *** At least these two otherwise opposite beliefs have something significant in common: not good for health. One beleives alkaline stomach is not good for health, the other believes acid stomach is not good for health. My hunch is that at least one of these is more right than the other, but then again, maybe this is another one of those obligatory "mileage may vary" situations....maybe they are both wrong, sometimes, maybe they are both right, some times....? Just throwin this out here. What the hey? If I'm gonna be confused, might as well do it up right, right?***
Just to finish of my comments for now, might as well also put out here that I am now thoroughly confused and conflicted on the greater Ph question. Don't get me wrong. For starters, I'm not blaming anyone, like Jeff, for my state of confusion. As far as this goes I openly admit that there are times when it is ultimately a good thing to spend some time thoroughly confused on a given topic.
