I've been wondering how Iodine can displace the others when I consider the rules mentioned above, as well. What occurs to me then is cell turnover. Perhaps the cells/receptors that are already contaminated with the lighter halides die off and are replaced with new cells/receptors. What halide gets first dibs on the new openings would be based on volume and affinity. Therefore reducing lighter halide consumption, and increasing Iodine ensures that Iodine would be in the best position to connect, and would help to prevent any released halides from dying cells/receptors from finding a place on the new ones.

It may also explain why most protocols are suggested for 3 months. I remember that when I was following the molybdenum protocol, it was advised that the protocol be continued for 120 days, as this is how long it would take for full-body cell turnover, and would ensure that all new cells would have an equal opportunity to be exposed to the moly. I would imagine that the same is true of iodine. In order to ensure that all cells have been exposed to an adequate amount of 'displacing' iodine, including time to build up to recommended levels, the full 90 days would be needed.
