Hi joy!
It's nice to be back.
Yes, the Mg supps make me very dry. I tried for months to use calcium to balance it, but it only worked so much and was very unstable as a little Mg went a lonnggg way. You know, that concentrace only has about 10mg of sodium, and that is pretty low. I had wondered if the chlorine content might not have caused the dryness. There is 700mg in one dose of 40 drops. That sounds like a lot, and chlorine is an antagonist of iodine. I figure my Iodine levels are still way too low to handle high doses of magnesium or chlorine. According to Acu-cell, the magnesium and the Iodine are also antagonist, and in the Iodine protocol, iodine increases the need for Mg supplementation. For me, I guess it is just the opposite.
I know my potassium balance is pretty shaky as I have suffered since childhood from sleep paralysis(linked to low potassium), and since my teens from interstitial cystitis(also linked to low potassium). When my teeth would become sensitive, potassium helped a lot, but like my calcium/magnesium situation, the balance was tenuous and unstable.
Iodine seems to be the answer to both the cal/mag and the mag/pot imbalances for me. My skin is the best it has ever been, including childhood. And guess what?! It even seems to be helping my blemishes clear. Well, I should say it is improving my blemishes response to clearing techniques. I had been using alpha hydroxy acids, and even broke down to use hydroquinone with no improvement. Within two weeks of starting the iodine, the AHA alone made a difference, and the hydroquinone is really speeding things along.
I did do a major increase in my copper for about 3 weeks, up to 8mg. Funny thing, about a week into my regimen, I had grease splatter on one of my fingers. It made a blister about the size of a large chick pea. I was so afraid I would end up with a huge, permanent scar. When I finally broke the blister, the skin dried and fell off in one clean piece. Underneath the skin was a bit mottled looking, but the texture was the same as the rest of my finger. Now, about 2 months later, you can not immediately tell that anything ever happened to my finger. After this result I had really hoped my blemishes from my many breakouts would have healed better, but that didn't happen. It has only really improved with the iodine.
I have been gradually reducing my copper supps, and am down to 2mg every 3 days(not counting the 2mg in my multi). My face doesn't break out when I eat vitamin C or citric acid like it did before. And if I keep my mag at 200mg or less, I don't have any reactions in the copper area of my face. If I match my potassium to my Mg, I don't get breakouts in my potassium area or get IC pain. So, balance seems to be on the horizon.
Of course, I am one of those rare people who uses Iosol instead of Lugol's or Iodoral. I'm pleased with the Iosol, but may want to step up to Lugol's if I get my daily dosage up to the 12.5mg level. Right now, slow and steady is yielding pretty good results. I use 2-3 drops right now(3.66mg-5.49mg). Now that I have figured out what I need between the mag/pot issue, I may be able to do a faster increase while keeping symptoms down.
Unfortunately, no luck with the grey yet, but I'm optimistic. I've haven't been supplementing Iodine a full month yet, so there is hope.
I had to take a break from Liver Flushing because my reactions to the magnesium was really drying me out. And despite everyone's insistance that it was detox, I knew better, in the case of my own body. I knew I had to get these minerals balanced if I wanted to really benefit from flushing. Plus, I had gotten down to mostly chaff from my flushes. Now that I am aware of the missing iodine component, I really glad I listened to my body. After I have adequately restored my iodine levels, I will begin a new series of flushing. Hopefully, the flushes will will no longer leave me so severely dry and dehydrated (despite following the Water Cure ), or with such sensitive teeth.
So what have you been trying lately? Have you had any breakthroughs? Are you still flushing? Please, update me. :) Also visit the Iodine Forum , I spend a bit of time there.
