Don't want to start "a debate" but would like to have a further discussion on this issue of high vs low use of iodine. I've tried both over the past few years. I would prefer to be a moderate user...which in my book is 13mgs/day of iodine. That seems reasonable if the studies on the Japanese are correct AND it applies universally (i.e to those of us with genetic backgrounds from lower Iodine parts of the world).
However here's what I've found...I started out 2 years ago following Dr. Jarvis's recommendation for about a year using Iodine in ACV. My breast pain diminished but did not disappear. I then moved to topically applying the Iodine which also helped but still didn't eliminate the breast pain. In fact I started back on coffee one month and had some of the worst breast pain ever.....coffee by the way doesn't cause the cysts but does dilate the blood vessels so you're getting a good idea how bad your breast cyst problem is by the pain it causes. So my cysts were bad ...which was also reconfirmed by a gyn visit that month. ALl this to say is that a year of 3 drops of Lugols in ACV didn't eliminate the cysts.
Only when I got up to 50mgs (and i've gone much higher) did I get relief and find the cysts shrinking. I've been working with Dr. Flechas for the past 9 months and he's believes you have to get the levels to 50mgs+ for breast protection. He puts Breast Cancer women on 100mgs/day of iodoral and has had good success including his own nurse.
(but my problem with Flechas is that he doesn't spend much time on detox reactions or other stuff...he seems to think you tough it out and that's it)
The anecdotal evidence I see from reading these lists and my own experience tells me that something good is going on with these high doses in many people. BUT I've also heard a few people possibly screwing their thyroids up with high doses....they are now more tired than before iodine. I'm using "possibly" here as no idea if the iodine screwing the thyroid is the cause. My ups and downs on higher doses of iodine disappeared once I raised selenium.
So...at this point don't exactly have a question for you Jeff but I would like to hear more of your experiences with people using just Jarvis's formulas. Especially FBD problems.
(moderator...please move this to debate if you feel the need)
Thanks
Lynn
