I gave the doctor my list of side effects and she said that there is no way they were related to the Mirena. She said that the BC pill may have been masking the ‘PMS’ symptoms and that now that I was not on it I was finally feeling what my body was really like. She also suggested, based on my symptoms, that I might have a Hypothyroid problem. I took the blood test today and am waiting for the results. Has anyone heard of a link between these two before? This is the list of symptoms I found for Hypothyroidism from
http://www.endocrineweb.com/hypo1.html:
>Fatigue
>Weakness
>Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight
>Coarse, dry hair
>Dry, rough pale skin
>Hair loss
>Cold intolerance (can't tolerate the cold like those around you)
>Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches
>Constipation
>Depression
>Irritability
>Memory loss
>Abnormal menstrual cycles
>Decreased libido
I had the Mirena inserted 1/9/07. I started linking one of my multiple side effects (including Cramping, Constipation, Bloating, Weight gain (gained 8% of body weight in 4 months), Increased hair loss, Dry and bleeding patches of skin on my vaginal area, Spotting directly after sex, Breast swelling/tenderness, Trouble falling asleep, Night sweats, Lower back pain, Acne, Decreased Libido, Mood changes, Dark spots inside vagina) with the Mirena only two weeks ago. I found this site last week and was so glad I did! As many here have listed, I thought it was just me.
After a back and forth disagreement with the Doctor that is filling in for my Gyn (he's on vacation,) I got my IUD out today, May 18, 2007. Now is my chance to start to live again! Thank you all for your compassion and support!
