I usually don't take more than a couple of minutes to get the coffee in. If you have the clamp opened up all the way and the coffee is just barely trickling out, you may have a clog. Make sure you wash your bag and tubing out well after each use.
If your strainer is not really fine in gauge (mine is fairly coarse), then you may have alot of sediment in your coffee (I do). If that is the case, the tubing tends to clog a bit. I usually massage the bag a little with my foot a couple of times while the coffee is flowing out in order to keep the sediment distributed so it doesn't clog anything. Otherwise, you may use a paper coffee filter to really filter it well. Try to use a filter that has not been chemically bleached or treated. I've read instructions that you should keep some of the finer sediment, and I've read other instructions that you should filter the coffee well to get the sediment out, so just do whichever you prefer. Perhaps someone with more experience knows the pros and cons of sediment.
I start timing the retention as soon as the coffee starts going in. Usually, I cannot hold it for the full 15 minutes. On very rare occassions, I end up holding it for too long, without even trying. Most of the time, though, I can only hold it for 5 to 10 minutes. That's why I have at least two retentions back to back. I haven't figured out what the reason is yet for this inconsistency in me. Anyway, that's one reason I start timing right away.
