(keep in mind, I am not a doctor, just someone who cares about your health...)

It would be easy for me to say, “Just slow down, for starters” because I don’t have any mouths counting on me to be fed.

I used to run long distance, too, before I had a car accident at age 18 that ruined it for me. I know the resentment you are probably subconsciously carrying around inside you about not being able to run like you want to. Sometimes I have the most delicious dreams about running, effortlessly, joyously, the wind blowing through my hair. For the present I am trapped in an uncooperative body, but one day, I will be free to run again!!

Irish, I would say the BEST thing you can do for yourself to start off would be to change your diet drastically. Be disciplined in this. Go vegetarian or at least semi-vegetarian, and as raw as possible. Eat organic fruits and veggies with plenty of grains. Cut out ALL hydrogenated fats and any foods fried in fat. Use cold pressed oils and add them to your dishes AFTER they are cooked. Get flax seed oil in the bottle and begin to use 2 Tablespoons per day or more. This contains essential fats your body MUST have to function properly. Don’t worry about maintaining your weight. If you lose 40 pounds, it will only be good for you. Just don’t lose it too quickly, or you could bring on gallbladder problems. I have fed my husband a pretty strict vegetarian diet in the past, and he LOVES the way he feels when I do.

I forgot to mention, your success will depend to a LARGE extent on your WIFE, if she is the one who prepares your meals. I pity husbands who do not have a wife that cares enough about their husband’s body and well being enough to do whatever is necessary. And it WILL be a BIG chore in the kitchen for her, with four children to keep happy as well. They will either resist the change in the supper table, and demand the food they may have come to love, or they will adjust. Perhaps you will be blessed in this area. Otherwise, Mom is going to be making several meals at every meal. Not an easy thing to do, trust me here. If she has not been accustomed to standing in the kitchen washing , slicing, dicing, and juicing, it will seem like that’s all she can get done in her day, especially if her health is not good. But, in time, on this kind of diet, her health will improve also, and she will be able to do more.

After several weeks, your blood pressure should fall off. Your energy level should start to creep up. Then you will have the stamina to look into other things.

Get the book, “The Liver Cleansing Diet,” by Sandra Cabot, and read about how liver health is so extremely important! Follow the guidelines set forth in the book, “Fit for Life,” by Harvey Diamond, and use the excellent recipes!

The important thing is to get started! A journey begins with a single step. Make it a step in the right direction!!

Keep us posted.
