Great info. Thanks a lot. I agree totally, I want to know more of the details of the interactions. I do know that my Mg levels have been quite high for a long while, and I believe that it was causing or aggravating my low calcium. When I added iodine, the relief was almost instant.

While Iodine is certainly not the sole metabolizer of calcium it seems to have a definite role. Perhaps its effect on calcium hinges on its effect on magnesium. Though I do wonder if it might have an effect on vitamin D too, as vitamin D affects the absorption and utilization of both calcium and magnesium(and phosphorous, though I have no idea how that mineral works into it all). I mention D both because of its role in cal and mag, and because it is actually a hormone generated by UVB rays and the skin, and Iodine is very prevalent in the skin. Then, of course, organic sulfur has a major effect on connective tissue(skin), so all these dots must connect somehow.

I really appreciate your post. In reference to the point about magnesium's effect on calcium being similar to PTH, I did read once that magnesium is essential for PTH to be released from the parathyroid. So if my deductions are correct, when calcium is low and magnesium is high, then the mechanisms that allow osteoporosis to occur will be in place. However, if magnesium and calcium are both low, then it is less likely that PTH will be released which may actually protect the bones. This is one example of what can make supplementation very tricky.
