Of course, funerals ARE ritualistically for the living (I personally never really did realize any advantage from them), my sadness that I'll never see the person again remains the same whether there is a funeral or not, yet, it would be hard to imagine anyone thinking that there shouldn't be one.
Death is easier handled by adults, children DO NOT handle it the same as adults. They don't need to repeatedly visualize a loved one that they can no longer spend time with. They can understand that the person was in bad health or is no longer around for a certain reason, but it is cruel to continuously shove that picture in their face.
About a year and a half ago, my mother died and I became the last living member of my family. Three months ago, I had a dream that I met her when she was still in perfect health, we ran to each other, hugged and called each other "best friends in the world". This is a GOOD MEMORY (dream). Children also (more than adults) need GOOD memories. Not caring to understand this is cold and cruel.
I was raised a Catholic too and know firsthand of their love. It is only the "machinery" (system) that allows "priests" to harm children's lives and mislead people that I object to, NOT the people themselves. They learn to show their devotion to The Lord a certain way, a wrong way, but their heart for The Lord is still "THEIR HEART FOR THE LORD". If you think the people should be penalized for being misled, well then, that's not CHRISTIAN of you, is it? So, what was that you were saying about bigotry?
Someone at work used to enjoy calling me a liar. They SMILED when I made a mistake and were able to TECHNICALLY call me a liar. I was amazed at how happy and anxious they were to convict me of lying (I couldn't believe a person could be so happy), so I picked up a piece of paper and held it in front of their face so they would see very clearly that it was paper, then I told them that I'm holding a piece of wood. They again accused me of lying. I did things like this a few more times and they were enjoying themselves so much (being able to technically convict me of lying) that I didn't have the heart to disappoint them and tell them that being anxious to convict of lying was a VERY unchristian thing to do.
I did hold it in front of their FACE (there was no DECEPTION, no lie). He called himself a FRIEND.
So, next time you have the "desire" to ACCUSE someone, stop blaming all the evil in the world on the devil, because evil comes from that "DESIRE". Whether just or unjust, how enthusiastic we are to accuse our neighbor is what determines our walk with The Lord (so does our enthusiasm to validate, "RE-deem" and exonerate each other), so does our willingness to make sense out of what each other says, instead of simply accusing them of being wrong.
