RA is an autoimmune disorder that is genetically predisposed - you don't "catch" RA from someone else like HIV/AIDS.

The mechanism is that the cells that fight infection are miswired and begin to attack the body. Typically, it begins in joint tissues and can spread to other areas and organs, over time. There is no known medical "cure," to date - perhaps Iodine therapy might change all of that! The management techniques include a long list of anti-inflammatories and steroids: NO THANK YOU!!!

I first noticed pain in my neck and thumb joints. The joint pain isn't typical as RA joint pain usually begins at the base of the extremities - rather than the large knuckle of my thumb being painful, it was much further down near the wrist where the thumb connects to all of the smaller bones in the wrist. At times, the pain was so debilitating that holding the steering wheel in my car was nearly impossible. The other night, I could hardly hold a spoon or cut my food with a knife and fork. Other symptoms of RA are constant low-grade fevers, chills, sweats, intensive fatigue, and increased allergic reactions. There was a point when I could not get through the day without sleeping from 1PM - 4PM.

So far, the Iodine therapy has alleviated the worst of my symptoms and it is my firm belief that this is probably one of the best management therapies possible for such immune deficiencies. If you Google "Arthritis Foundation," you'll see an unbelievably LONG list of other diseases that are categorized as "arthritis." Fibromyalgia is one of them along with gout!

Hope that helps! :)
