given that people swim in chlorinated pools all the time, and get the chlorine in their eyes, I personally would not feel bad if an equivalent amount of Iodine were in the water and got into my own eyes, since hypoiodite has been used in treating pool water in the past with much success, and people swimming in water so treated probably got a similar amount in their eyes. but unless a person is absolutely certain about the correct concentration, putting Iodine in the eyes may be a recipe for disaster ! as always, knowledge of the proper amount is critical. NO sense in losing an eye over this. Personally, I would feel comfortable with anything under 10 parts per million , and at a pH of about 7.4. That's just me, but isn't it interesting that the alleged gurus who incessantly base their schemes of "body pH" management promote that people ought measure their urine and saliva pH, while neglecting the pH of the ocular fluid ? I find many things interesting that others don't , I suppose. I have used a certain eye wash, to get the heavy metals out of my eyes, but can't share it out of fear of attack and that someone might mix it up wrong and hurt themselves ! This is one instance showing where regulation by prescription is beneficial. Most people don't have pH meters and reagent chemicals laying around, nor the education nor desire to do so as a matter of practicality. That's life.
