Hello Marie.
I noticed while on the Iodine, that my ankle would tend to "go out" while walking down stairs. I'm thinking that too much Iodine causes a mineral imbalance. I'm off the Iodine totally, until my body is able to handle it. I will only take the Iodine a couple times a week, per Dr. Jarvis' information I've already posted.
Here are a couple interesting quotes:
Iodine is an antiseptic and can be used to kill bacteria and fungi. Iodine used topically as a douche is effective against a wide range of organisms including candida and chlamydia. Excessive use should be avoided since some iodine will be absorbed into the system and can cause suppression of thyroid function. Iodine tablets are frequently used to disinfect water.
Iodine. Too much or too little of this is not good. Iodine is necessary for the formation of the thyroid hormone. It also helps keep pathogens under control. Yet too much iodine can form a complex with unsaturated oils and become toxic to the thyroid.

Recommendation from Dr. David Derry, M.D., who has been into iodine for a long time (I have his book):
"How much iodine is enough? It has been shown that daily doses of iodine above two to three milligrams per day (about half a drop from a standard eyedropper) saturate the thyroid within a couple of weeks. At this point, the thyroid gland stops taking up iodine. This means that at a dietary intake above two to three milligrams, all of the iodine goes to all its other functions in the body, such as killing off abnormal cells.
As you can see, too much is not good. And many are NOT telling us to go with high dosages.
I'm trying to find information about two M.D.'s along with a couple others, who experimented with the high dosage. After six weeks, they all developed GERD and discontinued taking it.
I'm thinking that the Iodine, being a very powerful antiseptic, MAY BE KILLING OUR INTESTINAL BACTERIA, thus afftecting digestion negatively.
Iodine is needed for digestion, but we get the opposite when we take TOO MUCH. I am now repairing my gut with herbs/prebiotic foods.
Body "painting" be good. But, for now, no iodine for awhile for me.
