I have been painting using a straw. One for drinking a fruit juice! I dip it in the Iodine and take as much as I want by blocking the top end with a finger. I slowly release the Iodine in drops over the area I want to paint, and spread it with the side of the straw.
Since I am travelling light, haven't got a lot of equipment!
