My close friend and neighbor is 85 and has cancer again. He was diagnosed a year ago with cancer near his cheeks/salivary glands. He went thru 6 months of radiation and was given a clean bill of health in Sept of 2006. Since his treatments, he has suffered from a foul gunky build-up of slime in his mouth but otherwise has felt fine. He was told that the radiation destroyed his salivary glands and he just has to live with the gunk in his mouth for the rest of his life. Now, after his most recent check-up, the cancer has returned. His doctor told him there is nothing that can be done and he should expect to die in the next year. Is there anything that anyone can reccomend to help him. The doctors are saying there is nothing so he really doesn't have much to lose. Granted he is 85 but still spunky, funky and fun. He still participates in his business and drives better than many 20 year olds.

As much as I adore him, I realize 85 is a pretty good lifetime. He served in WWII, lived in countless countries and had too many crazy adventures to count. So his life was good, BUT there must be some help for him to treat this. I think he'd rather just go in his sleep. He still wants to fight this even though he realizes he is only prolonging the inevitable.

I have read about Liver Flushes and Iodine treatments. Any thoughts on this for a person of such an age. I think he's ready for one more battle before saying goodbye. For the most part he lives a very healthy life. Grows most of his own food. Hasn't drank booze or smoked for over 30 years. Is active everyday and I know he was hoping to go for a few more years. Any ideas?
