I hear what this article is saying, however, as a person who lives and travels back and forth between the east and west coast, I get to actually see and compare a wider picture that perhaps many don't. Yes, immigrants in California receive the benefits listed on the previous posts and many more not listed. ie.:It is apalling how an undocumented individual can walk into an emergency room and go straight into the treatment room with no questions asked, while a US senior citizen at the poverty level and no insurance can be waiting in the same waiting room, feeling ill and hopeless, and yet refused be seen. This is not hearsay, it happened to me when I took a very sick friend in California. It made my blood boil that it was so blatant and in your face. Then to boot, I don't care what anyone calls me on here, but I despise the nasty attitude and rudeness that one encounters with these immigrants, who not only believe they deserve everything, but don't think they owe us any gratitude or respect.

By contrast, back in FLorida, I see and know many immigrants who are from South America, well educated, model people of all races, and great lovers of this country and its culture, and yet, they may have been trying for years to straighten their immigration status, but the ~~Dept. of Homeland Security~~ treats them with the greatest disregard anyone can imagine. These folks will spend literally thousands of dollars on attorneys fees to put their cases together in an orderly and legal fashion, and then D.H.S. will dismiss their cases without ever even looking at them!!!! They hold none of the usual regard for awarding permanent residence to individuals; like good conduct, productivity, NO criminal record, NO reliance on governmental assistance and US born children. (And for those of you who may not know this, South Americans do NOT generally have a truckload of children) The face of immigration has changed dramatically since 9/11, and everything is not on the up and up.....
So what I see from my constant exposure to the two coasts and several different cultures, is that there is a very marked favoritsm placed on some groups, while the other groups suffer tremendous hardships, perhaps because they do not resort to blasting its gracious host country with threats of lacking in political correctness. This is just my own speculation, but what is for sure is that the American way ain't what it used to for thousands of people. The plight of Venezuelans alone makes my heart cry, but of course that story is not the propaganda you hear on CNN.
Before we go runnning off to lawmakers to try and make things right, we need to have a clear understandng of what is really going on everywhere, otherwise some will continue to benefit endlessly, while others will pay very harsh consequences.

Just my .02 cents. I'm glad Southern Belle's post offered me a soap box where I could express it.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
