ok i found this online for you...

http://www.amazon.com/Neeras-Tamarind-Concentrate/dp/B000EIY17Q/ref=pd_rhf_p_...

this is WAAAY expensive but i actually may order this myself. i just got the same amount of tamarind from an indian grocer today for $1.49. BUT..a very big BUT......the stuff i got today has tons of seeds and husk in it. so even though it appears to be a large block of paste, it isn't. you would know what i mean by "husk" if you try the pods. the husk (don't know how else to describe it) covers the seed and then there is flesh around that but a very thin layer.

the first time i tried the tamarind was this weekend and i got the "whole" pods for dirt cheap...99 cents...but i don't recommend this. they are also all seed and hardly any fruit so you have to eat a lot of them and i wound up burning the roof of my mouth trying to suck the minimal amounts of actual flesh off of them.

today at the grocer...i found a package similar to this but i dont think what i got was desiccated:

that first link i put up there for the 14 bucks is the first source i have found that is 100 percent fruit and no seeds or other crap in it so you will actually wind up getting a lot more for your money.

the kids in the experiment were eating about 2 tsps per day.

i am gonna keep searching for a better source and will post if i find something cheaper/better.

hope this helps.
