Hi, I have had that experience too in healing. That of, each time one cycles through symptoms, the symptoms get less and less severe. That is what made me realize I was on the right track and getting well.
Yep, I also agree that alkalizing alone is probably not enough when one is severely ill. Or, it may eventually work, but would take forever. I started with that, and when I got well enough from that, added in other things which got me to another level of health, and so on. It was the base upon which all else was built, for me.
I have heard that about carotene also, but you also have to be able to convert the carotene, and some (like me) have trouble with that. But, my orange hue is fading, in any case, whether from A or carotene elimination or both, I cannot say. I saw a liver specialist over this, and he was spot-on. I went because all my liver tests kept returning as normal (I even had an ultra sound) but I was still clearly jaundiced. When I eliminated the A/carotene, I got a weird herx - I started expelling caustic goo from my sinuses. It made my nose and lips and the space between them burn and bubble up and ooze. My doc thinks I may have a genetic liver defect that makes me a slow detoxer (and my sister is also a slow detoxer), so I have to be very careful not to over-cleanse and get backed up. There is a test for that (genetic defect), but it is $400 and not covered yet by insurance, so I need to wait a couple months before I get it.
I used to have great blood Sugar regulation before candida. Since the liver regulates blood sugars, mine have been all over the place. They are now slowly coming back into line.
I agree with you that one should be able to enjoy a normal life when candida is gone, as sugar, etc. seems to be more of an exacerbator than a cause. But, I hope to always make generally healthy choices reagardless because if I can keep my body well-fed, all my "parts" will function better, and that is what will keep candida at bay. However, I do drink a glass or 2 of wine a few times a month with no problem.
What was it that made it come back for you? Antibiotics ? I seem to recal that?
