Jayson,
"Essiac: Rene Caisse's Herbal Pharmacy" minimizes Dr. Charles Brusch's role played in Essiac and his relationship with Rene Caisse. There seems to be extreme sentiment in opposition to the eight herb formula, Dr. Brusch, Elaine Alexander, The Flora Company, and the product Flor.Essence.
"In Rene's seventieth year she flew to Cambridge, MA in May of 1959 where Ralph Daigh introduced her to Dr. Charles Brusch. Soon Rene began several trips to Cambridge." ...and, on and on about clinical trials there. Donna M. Ivey biographer, CLINIC OF HOPE.
In her ninetieth year, Ontario's Lieutenant Governor, Pauline M. McGibbon accepted the secret formula in a sealed envelope to hold until after Rene's death. She asked that Dr. Charles Brusch receive honorable recognition from the people of Canada for his outstanding contribution and loyalty in support of Essiac. CLINIC OF HOPE
When turning the formula over to Resperin, Rene Caisse stated, "In case the formula is not developed, it is to be returned to Dr. Charles Brusch, Cambridge MA, 02139, in order that in my name he may continue research with Essiac in the Rene Caisse Cancer Foundation," the statement continued. "This agreement is made in appreciation of the work that Dr. Charles A. Brusch has done as my co-worker." CLINIC OF HOPE
It is Dr. Chester C. Stock of Sloan-Kettering that Rene Caisse was so disapponted in, when she divulged herbal secrets to him for his clinical trials. He did not follow her specific instructions and refridgerated the remedy. The trials on mice were a failure. Rene Caisse wrote many long complaining letters.
Finally, Dr. Stock wrote: "As you apparently wish a type of test we are not in a position to provide, nor would we wish to, we will terminate our testing of Essiac. We need the test capacity for materials from others who are satisfied with our testing procedures."
"This was a crushing blow to Rene. Dr. Stock had never thanked her for sharing her most precious possession, and they never met." CLINIC OF HOPE
Regarding Flor.Essence -- "Alexander (Elaine) was impressed by Rene's work with Dr. Charles Brusch and had in her own way made herself known to him. Exactly what documents, agreements, and understanding were arranged between her and Dr. Charles Brusch cannot be determined." CLINIC OF HOPE
