Hello.
due to my comment:

"Pet owners had a slightly higher BMI than the rest, which indicates that people having a pet — particularly a dog — could use some exercise," the researchers suggest.

Is this what those results indicate? Laughable conclusion. Real bright.

Re:

I don't think it's laughable at all. I know people who won't go out for long periods of time (ie. weekend trips, ect.) because they don't want to leave their poor baby doggies alone. So if they won't go on a skiing trip and leave the neighbour to feed their dog, then they'll sit around and watch TV all weekend instead.
"
Actually, in terms of Science it's a laughable conclusion. Why? For one thing, if the study showed that "Pet owners had a slightly higher BMI than the rest", that does NOT necessarily indicate that those owners could use some excercise. No one needs a study to suggest that; this fact would seem rather obvious from simply observing the subjects, don't you think? I mean, is an expensive study necessary to derive such a "bright" conclusion? In that case, what was the point of the study in the first place?
A better question may be, "WHY do pet owners seem to have a 'slightly' higher BMI than the rest?" Would THE answer be: "Because they don't excercise?". In that case, where's the data and where are the differential studies?
A possible conclusion may be: "This study seems to suggest a connection between BMI and pet owners. We need more study", which is undeniable, useful Scientific Truth regarding that study, if it was carried out and verified properly.
Maybe the "researchers" meant that last suggestion as some sort of (inside?) joke.
Anyway, just my opinion.
