Trapper's message was

"i have learned that if if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. right or wrong, he has made himself unelectable."

Your statement that Trapper has "gotten the message" is meaningless, as his first sentence relayed something he has learned in the past. His second sentence states the Paul is unelectable, which you have objected to.
