I have thought about this as well... I suspect there could be a glandular regulatory affect that may take a while to normalize, especially in the event that the "patient" has been eating a deficient diet for a prolonged period of time.

Kind of like starting a cold engine... and then an old engine; have to blow all the old carbon (bromide, fluoride, chloride) out.
