I read in many places that the vegetables with goitogens are okay for you if you have hypothyroid if they are cooked, but my body tells me that isn't so. If I eat three servings of cooked broccoli or kale a day, at night I am freezing. So cold that there are no amount of blankets that I can put on myself to make myself warm. I was talking to Julia Chang @sensiblehealth.com about my thyroid, and she said to stop eating the vegetables from that family, too. She didn't think that cooking it made a difference either. There's a chemical in them, and I doubt if it goes away by cooking. Maybe you can cook some of it out, but there's still enough left in the vegetable itself.
When looking up vegetables that might have adverse effects on my health, I found it funny that the most informative sites had to do with lizzards and chameleons. Apparently more care is given to animals with respect to diet than humans. I know someone who is so careful about what he feeds his dogs, but will doesn't even consider considering what he puts in his mouth.
I should be more careful with what I put in my mouth! It's much easier to say no to your pet than to yourself.
