Kelp contains iodine, a crucial factor in regulating the thyroid and the metabolic rate. However, too much Iodine can be very dangerous, it can throw the thyroid gland and production of its hormones into chaos. It is best to take this supplement for only a short period of time, then go off of it for a while. Remember that dried kelp, powder and pills is highly concentrated. Some people can use vast amounts of fresh kelp and think the pills and powder will be the same, they are not. Beware of any protocol that tells you to use large doses of Iodine rich kelp for long periods of time.
