Hi everyone! I was wondering if it is safe to
use borosilicate glass for cooking etc?

After reading about nickel and stainless steel toxicity
in Dr.Clark book I decided to find an alternative.
I thought that glass would be the best replacement
and I was excited to find all kind of items made of borosilicate/pyrex glass.
One thing I noticed though was that while there is plenty of stove
and fire proof glassware on ebay
there isn't much offered from
today's manufacturers and all these
items on ebay have been discontinued long while ago.
Does anybody know why all these pyrex borosilicate
stove safe glass items were discontinued?
Were there possibly some health issues involved or maybe safety issues or
maybe these items were simply not in demand? It is just plain strange to me that nobody makes fireproof glass
kitchenware anymore besides a few baking dishes which are not fireproof, just ovensafe.

As far as I know regular glass is not reactive
and is the safest material out there but I
am not sure about borosilicate. One thing is that
it has boron in it. Can it get in my food
as well as other things that are in the borosilicate?

One more thing. There are a few companies nowadays
that use borosilicate (besides lab equippment companies).
Bodum is one of them. They make teapots, cups ets. which are great but
while browsing their site I noticed this:
"Bodum's traditional borosilicate glass contains no lead"
What's the story with lead? I did not know that it may contain lead?
Here's borosilicate info from wiki: "Typically, the resulting glass composition is about 70% silica, 10% boric oxide, 8% sodium oxide, 8% potassium oxide, and 1% calcium oxide"
They don't mention any lead.

Could someone please clarify these things to me?
I thought I found a solution but now I'm not sure.
There must be enough people out there (at least on this forum I would think)
that try to avoid/replace metals as well and possibly know the answers. I need your help please.
