Yes you are ABSOLUTELY correct
One cannot do more for another than
they can do for themselves

And we do agree to
follow the Golden Rule
or Not

But (maybe this is what you mean?)
We cannot subvert Universal Law
It is in action at all times

Hence Karma
We can be free of Karma
if we do not cling
to any guilt
of past "wrong doings"

But, it seems, our
biology does not permit us
to completely lose our memory everyday
or we would not get to work
be able to drive
pay our bills

So it behooves us
all to do the
best we can for one another
