Hi Sonja,
I know how you feel. I have had lower right side abdominal pain for many months too and I have no fever or vomiting. I feel like I have pressure there if I sit with my legs crossed. I have had 2 ultrasounds with different doctors. As I have had surgery in the past for removal of an ovarian cyst and part of the right ovary, one doctor said my pain was probably due to surgical adhesions and if so there is nothing I could do about it. I had no diarrhea at the time.
Recently I had another ultrasound as I had really nasty pain very low down on the right side as a result of bending, twisting and stretching all in one movement (on top of my usual level of fairly constant right side pain). The ultrasound showed nothing. I also had some blood work done to detect inflammation (CRP & ESR) - my values came back very low. My haemoglobin was also apparently within the normal range, so hidden intestinal bleeding was not considered to be a possibility by the doctor. Lower right side pain can be an indicator of Crohn's disease, but sufferers commonly have diarrhea and often bleeding as well. I don't have diarrhea but my bowel movement frequency in the last few months has been very irregular, anything from 1 to 5 times per day.
I feel like I have developed multiple food intolerances since my younger brother died of cancer last year after months of appalling pain and suffering. Bread now causes me terrible gas and I can't tolerate fruit either. One doctor went so far as to say that the gas is caused by the yeast in the bread, but he stopped short of talking about candida. Another doctor did mention "dysbiosis" but was no help other than to suggest taking Lactobacillus plantarum to reduce inflammation in my bowel - but my blood work doesn't indicate inflammation. So I don't know what to conclude from this, maybe the CRP and ESR tests are unreliable.
My own feeling about my problem is that it may be irritable bowel syndrome exacerbated by being under prolonged stress from multiple sources. I take a probiotic that contains 13 different Lactobacillus strains and this does improve the "quality" of my bowel motions (sorry!) but the effect is not permanent. I also try to limit carbs and coffee in my diet and find that this helps me to do better. Some days I wake up almost pain free. But other days I have worse pain - for example, the day we had a real estate agent (realtor) out to put our home on the market (something we were forced to do due to a failed financial situation), I had crampy pains on the lower right side every few minutes. The next day the pain was gone.
Do you have any other bowel symptoms? Sounds like you do suffer from bloating.
