I read the Cabot book a few years back when I worked on my liver quite a bit. FWIW
I was a couple of weeks short of death due to medically induced Hep....so liver is something I learned about the hard way.
My preference has been Oriental medicine and of course reducing the liver`s load to begin with. Julia Chang has a few interesting theories......look her up.
