Castor Oil Pack Therapy

A.R.E. Clinic Brochure on Castor Oil Pack Therapy

By A.R.E. Clinic Staff

Castor Oil Pack Therapy is recommended for a variety of conditions, including: enhancing the immune system, encouraging the flow of lymph, reducing inflammation and infection, and calming the nervous system. You can also use it specifically over an injured area to promote quick healing.

Materials Needed for Castor Oil Pack

• Castor oil — cold pressed is preferred versus refined

• Flannel cloth — wool is preferred over cotton unless unavailable or allergy

• Pack Holder, or
Saran/plastic wrap or plastic sheet, bath towel or large elastic bandage, and 2–3 safety pins

• Electric heating pad (optional)

Instructions for Use

Fold the cloth into three or four thicknesses of a size adequate to cover the area being treated, which for general use (or for colonic preparation) would be the liver/abdomen area.

If you do not have a Pack Holder, you can improvise with using plastic wrap and a towel (or other binding). If using plastic wrap, cut a somewhat larger piece than the folded flannel.

Place the cloth on top of the Pack Holder or plastic wrap and saturate the flannel with castor oil (wet but not dripping). The saturated cloth should then be placed directly on the skin with the plastic wrap on top of it.

Then, if indicated, a heating pad is placed over top the plastic wrap on either a low or medium setting, or more if it is comfortable. The heat will promote absorption plus relax and soothe the intestines. This is generally left in place for approximately one to two hours. (Note: heat should not be utilized if an inner abscess or
appendicitis is suspected, or if there is fever or infection present.)

An alternative is to apply the pack without heat, with the Pack Holder, or a towel wrapped around the body and pinned together to hold it in place. This can then be left on overnight, or for a 24 hour period. (An overlapping of the towel and plastic wrap will help to ensure that the castor oil does not get all over your sheets.)

If desired, the skin can optionally be cleansed afterwards with a solution containing 1 teaspoon of baking soda per 1 pint of water.

The pack itself may be utilized repeatedly and should be stored in a plastic container in a cool place in between usages. It should be discarded when it appears soiled, or the condition being treated is particularly toxic. Also, if toxicity is an issue, the pack should not be shared amongst other family members.

Frequency

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 consecutive days per week (mark depending on advice from your doctor). Much of the time the packs are utilized on a cyclic basis with rest periods in between usages.

Focus on Positive Thought

Meditate, pray, read inspirational material,
create a healing visualization, or think positive thoughts while using your pack.
